Jockey Noel Callow has a suspected fractured leg after six-year-old debutant L’Esprit pinned him in the starting gates at Werribee.
Trained by Andrew Homann, L’Esprit was engaged in Thursday’s Wyndham Weekly Maiden Plate (1000m) but was scratched at the barrier as Callow writhed in pain from his injury.
“He has a suspected broken right fibula and he will be transported to Epworth Hospital who are aware of the injury and waiting for him,” steward Taylor Wilson said.
Callow had his leg strapped and was in good spirits as paramedics carried him to the jockeys’ room where he was happy to wait for another ambulance to take him to hospital so the meeting could proceed.
